BRS were engaged by CommsPower to complete an arc flash analysis for the GrainCorp terminal in Pinkenba, QLD, after site identified the risk to their workers & contractors.
BRS was engaged due to our experience in arc flash analysis, as well as intimate site knowledge after completing the design & commissioning of the greenfield site in 2016.
Using as built documentation, verification of the details with CommsPower, and information requested from Energex, a power model was created and analysed against NFPA 70E 2015 (the standard most used by industry to manage arc flash risk). As expected, the model showed coordination between breakers, high arc flash risk around the incomer and a low arc flash risk for subsequent areas.
The report outcomes and recommendations given to site explain the risks their workers may face, and mitigation techniques that should be considered – such as no live work, arc flash detection, and mandatory PPE.
